Wrisinger Auction History

A Family Tradition Since 1959

Established in 1959 by Col. Roy D. Wrisinger in Richmond MO  Roy attended and graduated from Fort Smith Auction School in Fort Smith Arkansas in 1959.  A former construction foreman in Kansas City, he started his business at age 42.  His innovative style and creative ambitions suited him well.  Col. Roy "cried" hundreds of benefit auctions to give back to the community.  When he started, he had no idea that his son, Rick, only 5 years old at the time, would continue the business.  In the early years, he made the business a family affair.  His children, as well sister Sarah, nieces and nephews could always be found at the Sale Barn.  Roy bought the old Harrison Lumber Yard storage building, even though it was a gravel floor and open front, Roy and his family worked hard to make a sale barn. The front was enclosed, and eventually the gravel floor was replaced with concrete.  In the mid 60's, Roy's Used Furniture Store was located under the Richmond Hotel.  When it was destroyed by fire, the sale barn doubled in size.  The used furniture store was moved to its current location.  It is still the location of our current sale barn and used furniture store.  Roy passed in 1993, but was very proud that his business would continue and become a family tradition.

2nd generation auctioneer Col. Rick Wrisinger - 1978  Rick received a BA degree in Secondary Education from William Penn College in 1977.  He graduated from Fort Smith Auction School in July 1978.  After helping his dad, Roy, for 4 years, Rick moved back to Richmond from Melcher, IA to join the family business full time in 1982.  Rick continued teaching at Orrick High School.  In 1993, Rick received his Master's of Science degree in Secondary Administration.   Rick served as the principal at Orrick High School for eight years until his retirement from education July 1, 2008.   The family auction business has continued throughout the years.

3rd generation auctioneer Col. Heather Wrisinger-Pugh - 2004 - Heather received as BS degree in Elementary Education from Northwest Missouri State University in 2003.  She is currently a 3rd grade teacher at Orrick Elementary School.  She has completed her Master's Degree in Elementary Administration at Central Missouri State University.  Heather graduated from Reisch World Wide School of Auctioneering in June 2003.  She assists with auctions and has been a wonderful addition to the family auction business.
